Our clients wanted to create a home that could accommodate larger groups of family and friends as well as being a comfortable and easy to maintain environment for two. We were asked to look at, and improve, the flow of the property which worked in principle but was in need of an update. This meant creating a new entrance, increasing the size of the kitchen, adding a summer room to link the house to the garden as well as adding an extra bathroom for guests.
A new entrance was created by taking down the old single storey entrance hall and re-building this on two floors, creating more space at the bottom of the stairs and allowing for an extra bathroom upstairs. An open stone porch and steps now give the new entrance (which used to be a window) presence and shelter on entering the house.
The kitchen was extended with a single story extension and in order to maximise daylight we installed two skylights which bring light via a ceiling window. A south facing glazed door and an additional window to the north add light and views into the garden.
A summer room was added to the drawing room, allowing for extra space for large family gatherings and a perfect space in which to enjoy the gardens all year round.
